Andy Merrett Online is one year old today. On Wednesday 12th May 2004, I welcomed readers (ore more accurately, myself) to my first weblog.

I started out using modified news-posting software, which served its purpose for a couple of months. I then discovered WordPress 1.2, and have never looked back.

I have always been inspired by people such as Daniel Bowen who had the ability and the inspiration, determination and dedication to create cool websites. I had the ability, as previous efforts at a home page testify (now long deceased) but not enough of the others to progress them.

My blog has been as much about self-expression as seeking online popularity (or notoriety). It is interesting to look back and see what I have been writing about. Although my blog tends not to focus on personal events to any great degree, it does feature snippets. It’s not really authoritative on any subject - not even on the subject of ‘Andy Merrett’ - but it is uniquely mine.

I know that I have a fairly select crowd of regular readers (at least, I’m on their RSS feeds), which is a start. World domination may be some way off - I may have to do this via some other avenue. Nevertheless, it’s nice to know that people are reading, and maybe even appreciating, my writings.

My posts have varied from serious commentary on current affairs, news and life issues, to frivolous fun and web links. I expect all to continue in some measure, though in which direction my blog goes in the next year, and beyond, even I am not sure, yet.
